About

Our mission

To ensure specialist support is accessible to all separating families travelling through the legal system - whatever their budget.

Expert help

Our service provides advice and guidance to some of society’s most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged families. We believe money shouldn’t be an obstacle to justice, and no-one should face the legal side of separation alone.

Fair fees

The cost-of-living crisis, and cuts to legal aid, have made it difficult for many families to access affordable family law advice. We’re here to fill the gap between those who qualify for legal aid and those who can afford private legal representation.

Real results

Many of our clients are dealing with emotionally sensitive and complex cases – such as domestic abuse or denied access to children. The Affordable Family Law Group don’t just help people tackle the legal jargon and the courts – we change lives.

Our story

The Affordable Family Law Group (AFLG) was founded by Executive Director, Peter Guest, in 2013.  Following the breakdown of his first marriage, and as a survivor of domestic abuse himself, he had firsthand experience of how difficult and expensive it can be to navigate the family law system. After self representing in court, and securing Protective and Live With Orders for his children, he realised the need to support others through this journey. Especially those families who can’t afford conventional high-street legal fees.

Since it’s humble beginnings in Dorset, the Affordable Family Law Group has opened branches in multiple regions across the country, and in 2020 we registered as a Community Interest Company. We seek to make a real social impact in our communities, not just with the clients we support, but with our highly successful legal internship programme. Our board of directors have been carefully selected to bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. Their backgrounds include professional law, accountancy, HR, health & social care and business management.
